Hey there! So, let me break down this trip to Toronto like I’m planning it for my best friend. First things first, how are you getting there? Flying or driving? If flying's your pick, Billy Bishop Airport is a gem. Porter's website often has sweet deals for flights around the Northeast. But hey, if Pearson's your go-to, brace yourself for those high prices, especially during Canada's travel rush.
Now, if driving's more your style, timing is everything. Dodge the GTA traffic from 7 to 9:30 in the morning and 3:30 to 7:30 in the afternoon. Trust me, you don't want to be stuck in that mess.
So, you land at YYZ. Here's the scoop: the UP Express is a champ. It's quick, affordable, and lands you right downtown at Union Station. If Uber's your vibe, here's a weird thing: check the price right after landing, then again after immigration, and suddenly it spikes when you're outside with luggage. Cue Twilight Zone music. No clue why, but booking ahead or randomly checking outside the terminal could save you some bucks.
Once downtown, there are three tiers of stays: high-end spots like Bisha, Ritz Carlton, and Shangri-La; mid-range joints like One Hotel, Intercontinental, and more; and budget-friendly options like Pantages, Holiday Inn Express, or Rex (which has a rad jazz bar and shared bathrooms).
Speaking of cool stays, the Marriott attached to the Rogers Center is a dream for game nights or concerts. Imagine watching the game from your room—pricey, but an experience.
For Airbnb lovers, around the Rogers Center is prime real estate. City Place nearby might not have tons of activities, but it's a hotspot for Airbnb stays. Then there's King Street West and a bit north, Queen Street West, where the action's at. Kensington Market's funky vibe is worth checking out for unique stays and exploring.
Now, if you're on a budget, consider North York. Cheaper options but a commute back to the core. Etobicoke's farther west but the GO train gets you to the heart of Toronto.
Once you're settled in, drop your bags and roam free. Toronto's safe for walking, with a few areas to watch out for. Getting around? TTC's cute streetcars or Uber, just beware of surprise price hikes. If you're hopping on the TTC or those cute streetcars, it's around three bucks a trip. Don't even think about trying to ride for free—the ticket's a hefty $400 if you get caught. Not worth it, trust me.
Now, onto the fun stuff! Let's plan your day. For dinner options, we've got a range. Real Sports Bar near the stadium is a sports fanatic's paradise with killer chicken wings. Harbor 60's a fancy steakhouse, and The Keg's a more laid-back spot, perfect for rocking your jersey.
If you're after a breathtaking experience, CN Tower's 360 Restaurant is a must. Imagine dining with rotating views of the entire city. Oh, and sometimes you can peek into the stadium—super cool photo ops!
Now, onto the bar scene! We've got classics like The Wheatsheaf, Earls, Cactus Club, and King Taps—solid spots with good vibes. But if you're up for a wild night, Rock 'n' Horse's country music scene is a blast. Wide Open is a chill dive bar, while Petty Cash and Locals Only are gems for a buzzing atmosphere. Just a heads up, Locals Only can get packed, so an early arrival or reservation at its fancier counterpart upstairs, Laissez-Faire, is smart.
Clubs? They change every three months, but Lavelle's rooftop view is stunning. For DJs or top clubs, there are just so many. Our advice, go online and find any top 10 lists or guest DJ schedule that you love. Toronto has some rock stars performers come in and set up at any of the massive venues on any given weekend so you never know.
And hey, after the party, if you're craving a Canadian experience, Smoke’s Poutinerie's your late-night haven. Gravy, cheese, and fries—classic Canadian comfort food. Another option? Chat Bar—make your own skewers till 2 a.m.
Stay safe heading back—Uber's a solid choice. Taxis might pull some tricks, so cash is king, especially after a night out.
Morning's game day! Fuel up with wild Caesars and hearty breakfast at Hunter's Landing. Or go for a buffet feast at House on Parliament near St. Lawrence Market. If you're feeling adventurous, try Laduree—a Middle Eastern breakfast spot with super long lines.
Oh, and if it's the last Sunday of the month, hit up Laissez Faire for their disco brunch—epic vibes!
Coffee lovers, hold tight— you can skip breakfast and do a Canadian staple: Tim Hortons - they are everywhere and have standard coffee and super convenient and kinda-way-too-tasty breakfast wraps! Although, a personal favorite is Balzac’s Coffee, jump in google maps, it’s worth the walk.
To explore the city after brekkie, consider taking the streetcar or hopping in an Uber. Feeling funky? Kensington Market's the spot with its vibrant shops, bars, and a unique Asian vibe. For a westward adventure, hop on the TTC towards Ontario Place. The whole waterfront leading there is a gem, especially for families, but renovations might be underway, so best to check online for accessibility.
Lunchtime hits, and there are options aplenty for that pregame excitement. Cherry's High Dive Bar is a riot—fantastic pizza, including protein-packed ones. For a classic sports bar experience downtown, Cherry’'s High Dive has all the TVs and vibes you need. Pai Thai brings awesome taste and seriously delicious Thai food to the table. Feeling nostalgic or have kiddos in tow? Whistle Dog's giant hot dogs or the arcade fun at The Rec Room are absolute winners. Wow, that's an action-packed itinerary! From arcades and rooftop views to sports bars and late-night bites, you've got the full Toronto experience lined up. Whether it's nature at Trinity Bellwoods, the Hockey Hall of Fame, or the CN Tower, there's something for every interest.
And when it's time for a pregame meal, options abound. Loose Moose for Canadian staples, KOST for a rooftop experience, or the high-end STK for a classy steak affair. Plus, the range of bars—from St. Louis to Fox and Fiddle to Boston Pizza to The Pint — offers variety in ambiance and fare. If one is full, just go to the next.
Post-game, the rooftop scene at Harriet's or The Porch is absolutely spectacular, or a visit to the Midnight Market's speakeasy promises a memorable night. And for a late-night food fix, downtown's Chinatown Rol San or Burgers N’ Fries are tantalizing options.
The morning after…, wrapping up your trip with breakfast at Mildred Temple Kitchen or Lady Marmalade sets the tone for departure. If time allows, High Park's petting zoo or a shopping spree at the Eaton Centre could cap off the trip. And honestly, just walking anywhere along the water is front so please enjoy and get some exercise before that flight or drive back.
